Run power tools on batteries and charge them safely

Cordless tools on one battery platform can be charged from solar during the day. Lithium-ion batteries are also a fire risk if charged badly.

How

  1. Choose one battery platform for drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, angle grinder and work light, so batteries are interchangeable.
  2. Charge from the solar system in daylight when there is surplus (see power-25).
  3. Use the charger that came with the battery or one the maker recommends (London Fire Brigade).
  4. Charge on a hard, flat surface away from exits, with a smoke alarm in the area, and never unattended or overnight (London Fire Brigade).
  5. Let batteries cool after use before charging, and stop using any battery that has been dropped or damaged.
  6. Protect batteries from extreme heat and cold.

Safety: Damaged or badly charged lithium-ion batteries can catch fire and are hard to put out.
