Check performance over the first year

A passive house is tuned by its occupants. One year of simple readings shows whether shading, mass and ventilation behave as designed.

How

  1. Place cheap temperature and humidity loggers in the living room, a bedroom, the battery room and the pantry.
  2. Record hottest and coldest days and compare indoor and outdoor swings.
  3. Check sun patches on mass floors at the solstices and adjust shading or planting.
  4. Look for condensation on windows and in corners; increase ventilation if humidity stays high.
  5. Adjust overhang screens, blinds and night-ventilation routines; record what works in the living module.
