Build a local Wi-Fi network without internet

A home router can share the library to every device even when the internet is gone. Nothing on the network needs an outside connection.

How

  1. Use a router or access point powered from the house DC or inverter circuit; measure its watts and add it to the budget.
  2. Connect the media server and set it to a fixed local address. Write that address on the catalogue printout.
  3. Install the Jellyfin and Kiwix apps on each device ahead of time, while app stores still work, and save the installers to the backup drives.
  4. Kiwix also sells a ready-made Kiwix Hotspot (a Raspberry Pi image) that creates an open local Wi-Fi network with offline Wikipedia and no internet access. Kiwix lists a 27 W (5 A) supply for the Pi 5 version.
  5. Set a Wi-Fi password and a schedule so the network is off at night.

Do these first
