Choose what goes in each content category

Decide the mix of formats so the library covers rest, learning and morale, not only films.

How

  1. Music: albums and playlists for each person, plus calm music for sleep and upbeat music for work days.
  2. Films and series: family titles first, then adult titles stored in a separate folder or library (see entertainment-21 on parental controls).
  3. Audiobooks and podcasts: good for chores, garden work and evenings when you want screens off. Download podcast episodes as plain audio files while you still have internet.
  4. Ebooks and reference: novels, textbooks, repair manuals and cookbooks.
  5. Offline encyclopaedia: Kiwix packages Wikipedia and other sites (for example iFixit, MedlinePlus and Ready.gov) into ZIM files you read with its free app, with no internet. Wikipedia comes in a full version, a no-pictures version about 75 percent smaller and a mini version about 95 percent smaller.
  6. Educational video: courses and lectures you have bought or that are openly licensed, sorted by subject and age.
