Set up monitoring

A battery monitor and system display tell you how full the battery is, how much the array is producing and what you are using, so problems show up early.

How

  1. Install a meter that reads battery voltage, state of charge and power use, as recommended for stand-alone systems.
  2. Use the equipment's data logging or app to record daily production and use.
  3. Compare daily production against the PVWatts or PVGIS estimate for that month. A steady shortfall points to shading, soiling or a fault.
  4. Set alarms for low state of charge and high battery temperature.
  5. Review monthly in the first year to check your load audit against reality.
