If a weak mobile signal reaches part of the land, a booster with an outdoor antenna can bring it indoors. It is cheaper than satellite but only works where some signal already exists.
How
- Walk the estate with a phone in field test mode or a signal app to find where signal is strongest, often on high ground.
- Buy only a booster that is legally approved in your country. US example: FCC rules (47 CFR 20.21) require consumer boosters to meet network protection standards, carry a label saying they work only with your provider's consent, and be registered with your mobile provider before use. Other countries may restrict or ban boosters, so check your regulator and network first.
- Mount the outdoor antenna high and pointed at the nearest mast, and keep it well separated from the indoor antenna to avoid feedback.
- Add the booster to the critical loads list so it runs in an outage.
- Do not rely on a booster as your only emergency link; a mast can lose power in a storm. In the PACE plan (comms-2) it shares a level with satellite internet.
