Choose an alarm and installer
An alarm adds detection and, if monitored, a response. Its value depends on the installer and the response behind it.
How
- UK example: choose an installer linked to a recognised inspectorate, such as NSI or SSAIB.
- A monitored alarm may get a police response through the alarm company. DIY alarms will not necessarily get one.
- Ask how long the panel runs on its standby battery, and plan for power cuts (secure-29).
- Other countries have their own approval schemes. Ask the local police crime prevention service.
