Design a dry recyclables and residual waste station

Remote estates may only reach a recycling centre once a month or less, so you need clean, dry, rodent-proof storage sized for that interval.

How

  1. Use the weekly tracker to work out litres per week of each recyclable stream and of residual waste.
  2. Multiply by the number of weeks between trips and add a margin; this gives the storage volume needed.
  3. Build or buy lidded bins under a roof, sorted by what your recycling centre accepts. Rinse containers before storing so they do not attract pests.
  4. Flatten cans and boxes to save space.
  5. Place the station near the vehicle route so loading is easy.
