Build a permit register

Pull every answer from the steps above into one table so nothing is missed and permits are applied for in the right order.

How

  1. List every permit, licence or approval: planning or zoning, building, well or borehole, water abstraction, wastewater, electrical, and any others the authority mentioned (driveway access, tree removal, burning).
  2. For each one record: issuing body, contact, fee, documents needed, typical decision time quoted by the authority, inspections required, and expiry date.
  3. Mark dependencies: for example a building permit may need the approved septic permit or a well test first.
  4. Note which permits are tied to the land and which are personal to you.
  5. Keep copies of every letter, email and approval in one folder, with dates.
  6. Review the register each month during the project.
