Protect eyes and keep spare vision aids

Losing glasses or injuring an eye can stop someone working safely. Spare vision aids and eye protection are cheap insurance.

How

  1. Keep a spare pair of glasses for everyone who wears them, plus copies of prescriptions. Contact lens wearers keep spare lenses, solution, a case and glasses as backup.
  2. Wear safety glasses with side shields for cutting, hammering, strimming and chainsaw work, and goggles when handling chemicals.
  3. Chemical in the eye: flush with clean water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eye open, then get emergency care.
  4. Cut or object in the eye: do not rinse or remove anything; cover with a rigid shield without pressure and get emergency care.
  5. Keep a rigid eye shield and unexpired eyewash in the household kit.
