Plan a sick room and one caregiver
An infectious illness can spread through a household quickly. A sick room plan keeps others well and protects the people you need to run the estate.
How
- Choose a room where a sick person can stay with the door closed. Open windows for fresh air when it is safe (WHO).
- Ideally one healthy person, not at high risk, gives all the care.
- The sick person and the carer wear medical masks whenever they share a space.
- The carer washes hands before and after every contact. Everyone cleans their hands often.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and items the sick person touches at least once a day. Give them their own dishes and cutlery.
- Seek urgent care for trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion or loss of speech or movement. In young children: high fever, fast breathing, floppiness, poor feeding or blue lips. If no help can reach you: follow your no-help plan (medical-33).
