Set up the home office and schooling area

Remote work and home schooling (living-2, continuity-22) need a quiet, well-lit space with low-power devices and paper backups.

How

  1. Place desks near a window for daylight, with neutral or cool-white LED task lamps for reading and work, as the ENERGY STAR bulb guide suggests for workspaces.
  2. Use laptops and tablets rather than desktop computers to keep loads low; measure their watts as entertainment-14 explains.
  3. Fit shelving for printed textbooks, workbooks and the offline library (comms-7), so learning can carry on without screens.
  4. Give each child a fixed desk spot and storage, and keep chargers on a labelled shelf with a charging schedule (entertainment-17).
