Build the master maintenance calendar

Pull every system's maintenance list into one calendar so nothing is forgotten. The summary below is a framework; the detailed tasks and intervals come from each module and from your equipment manuals.

How

  1. Daily: battery state of charge and daily kWh (power), tank levels (water), fridge and freezer temperatures (living-14), animal water and feed (animals), stove and alarm checks in heating season (thermal, safety).
  2. Weekly: walk-round of panels, wiring, pumps and pipes for damage or leaks; root cellar check (living-13); compost and composting toilet tasks (sanitation, waste); garden irrigation check (food).
  3. Monthly: clean or inspect water filters and pre-filters (water); test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (safety); review energy and water logs for trends.
  4. Seasonal: prepare for heat or freeze, clean gutters and first-flush diverters (water), service the generator per its manual (power), check greywater outlets (sanitation), clear vegetation near buildings (safety).
  5. Annual: dial-gauge canner test before canning season (living-10); chimney and flue sweep and inspection (thermal); professional inspection of the electrical system (power); water quality test (water); pantry and spares review (living-9, living-17).
  6. Put every task into a shared calendar with the owner from your chore roster (living-2), and tick it off in the logbook (living-18).
  7. Always replace a calendar interval with the manufacturer's interval if they differ.
