Furnish the family and media room

The family room is where the household relaxes, eats together and keeps morale up during a long outage. Plan it around low-power devices and screen-free play.

How

  1. Pick low-power screens and players and fit them into the solar budget, as entertainment-15 and entertainment-16 explain.
  2. Mount the TV on the wall or anchor it, and anchor bookcases and units that hold games and books (rooms-21). CPSC reports that TVs were involved in most child tip-over deaths.
  3. Provide shelving for books, games and craft supplies from entertainment-19 at heights children can reach without climbing.
  4. Use daylight in the day and a few warm-white LED lamps at night (rooms-22).
  5. Choose upholstered seating that meets your country's fire safety rules (rooms-20).

Safety: Anchor TVs and tall units before children use the room.
